A checklist for testing measurement invariance

چکیده
The analysis of measurement invariance of latent constructs is important in research across groups, or across time. By establishing whether factor loadings, intercepts and residual variances are equivalent in a factor model that measures a latent concept, we can assure that comparisons that are made on the latent variable are valid across groups or time. Establishing measurement invariance involves running a set of increasingly constrained Structural Equation Models, and testing whether differences between these models are significant. This paper provides a step-by-step guide in analyzing Measurement Invariance.

Measurement invariance of the Hopkins Symptoms Checklist: a novel multigroup alignment analytic approach to a large epidemiological sample across eight conflict-affected districts from a nation-wide survey in Sri Lanka
BACKGROUND The alignment method, a novel psychometric approach, represents a more flexible procedure for establishing measurement invariance in geographically, ethnically, or linguistically diverse samples, especially in large epidemiological surveys. Although the Hopkins Symptoms Checklist (HSCL-25) has been used extensively in the field to assess anxiety and depressive symptoms, questions rem...
متن کاملMeasurement Invariance Across Parent and Self-Ratings of Extremely Low Birth Weight Survivors and Normal Birth Weight Controls in Childhood and Adolescence on the Child Behavior Checklist and Youth Self-Report.
OBJECTIVE This study examined the measurement invariance of the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and Youth Self-Report (YSR) DSM-oriented scales between extremely low birth weight (ELBW) and normal birth weight (NBW) youth. METHODS The sample included 158 ELBW survivors and 145 matched, NBW controls at 8 and 12-16 years of age. RESULTS Strict invariance was established at 8 years for parent...
متن کاملLongitudinal Measurement Invariance of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Deployed Marines.
The meaningful interpretation of longitudinal study findings requires temporal stability of the constructs assessed (i.e., measurement invariance). We sought to examine measurement invariance of the construct of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders indexed by the PTSD Checklist (PCL) and the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale ...
متن کاملFactorial Invariance Testing under Different Levels of Partial Loading Invariance within a Multiple Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis Model
Scalar invariance in factor models is important for comparing latent means. Little work has focused on invariance testing for other model parameters under various conditions. This simulation study assesses how partial factorial invariance influences invariance testing for model parameters. Type I error inflation and parameter bias were observed.
متن کاملInternalizing and Externalizing Behavior Problem Scores Cross-Ethnic and Longitudinal Measurement Invariance of the Behavior Problem Index
Accurate measurement of behavioral functioning is a cornerstone of research on disparities in child development. This study used the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 (NLSY79) data to test measurement invariance of the Behavior Problem Index (BPI) during middle childhood across three ethnic groups. Using the internalizing and externalizing behavior problem division derived by Parcel an...
